When Kevin Costner’s character in the 1989 baseball movie “Field of Dreams” heard a whisper, he could not possibly have imagined how famous it would one day become. Costner’s character, Ray Kinsella, hears the sentence “if you build it, he will come.” Kinsella then proceeds to build a baseball field and an entire team of deceased baseball stars show up to play a game together. Of course, it’s all a fantasy, but the quote has stood the test of time and the idea of pursuing your dreams has persevered.
More than 30 years have passed since the movie first hit theaters. Over time, the quote has transcended film and has been adapted as a mantra for business development across many industry sectors. So, how true is it? And does this quote withstand the test of time in the business world?
Let’s take a look at the global software market. It’s hard to say how many new software products are built every day. What is clear is that the market continues to expand. The global software products market is expected to grow from $1,141.43 billion in 2021 to $1,307.59 billion in 2022 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.6%. If that figure is not staggering enough, just try to wrap your head around the prediction for growth by 2026. In the next four years, the global software products market is expected to reach $2,157.19 billion.
Does this mean that any new software product is bound to be successful? Not necessarily. Yes, the software market will continue to grow at an exceptional rate. However, that doesn't mean there is space in the market for any old product. There is one crucial difference. Kevin Costner’s Ray Kinsella knew exactly who he wanted playing at his baseball field – his baseball player idols. Just like Kinsella, you need to be clear about who “they” are and how your product will improve “their” lives.
At Tadabase, we built a platform for business owners who have Data with a capital D. We know that other platforms lack the back-end that will successfully withstand and retain the large amount of information necessary to scale a business. Today, we have users who have as many as 10,000,000 records on their database (and counting). Yes, you read those zeros correctly. We continue to innovate with businesses in mind and prepare for an eventuality the owners themselves haven't considered or thought plausible.
For us, the “they” are our customers who are obsessed with speed, security and scalability. That's the power behind Tadabase and that’s the audience we cater to.
The better you know who your target customers are and how they behave, the easier it becomes to connect with them. Once that connection and effective communication are established, all you have to do is build your software – and they will come.
